Project: Location Network

Challenge
We needed to create a tool for location scouts to use to in order to effectively scout locations for production companies using an online interface. We also needed to provide tools that allow creation, categorization and manipulation of over 400,000 high-resolution digital images. These images needed to be stored effectively online in low-resolution formats for easy browsing, as well as offline for the creation of high-quality PDF presentation documents. The application needed 3 main domains: front-end for users, consultant domain to allow consultants to work directly with users to scout locations and process
orders, and administration to manage the extensive library of images.

Solution
We created at Digital Desktop for scouts to use to manage hundreds of location images in an online, interactive environment. The Digital Desktop consists of 3 tools, representing the 3 phases necessary in scouting location; initial location discovery, group feedback and image filtering and, finally presentation to the production companies. This tool has both
online and offline components. The online components were developed using ASP and other image manipulation tools, driven by a MS SQL Server 2000 database. The offline components were created using Java, to run as a desktop application to take online digital documents built by users, and transform them into high-quality PDF documents with rich, high-resolution images for professional presentation. The application uses secure transaction pre-authorization and order processing, running on a dedicated, high-disk-volume managed server.
